Africa Wiki Women's On WikiSkills is a three-month mentorship program providing training, close mentorship, and support to empower African women to confidently contribute to Wikimedia projects and train others.

Africa Wiki Women 2026 On-Wiki Skills Mentorship Program (Cohort 2) is currently empowering 21 Anglophone and 11 Francophone mentees across Africa.

WikiSkills Mentorship Program

The EditHer Africa Contest is a monthly initiative by Africa Wiki Women to bridge gender gaps on Wikimedia projects. Through themed training and edit-a-thons, the project empowers contributors to create and improve articles, ensuring that the achievements and perspectives of African women are accurately represented globally.

The Africa Wiki Women Skill Up Workshop is a capacity-building program designed to equip women and aligned individuals across Africa with the essential skills to contribute effectively to Wikimedia projects and impact society.

The April 2026 Skill Up Workshop received over 100 registered participants from various countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, Rwanda, and Kenya.

The Francophone community has successfully organized Skill Up Workshops on topics such as 'Traduction et contribution sur Wikipédia' and 'Initiation au podcast,' participants attended from various African countries, including Cameroon, Burundi, Madagascar, Nigeria, Benin, the DRC, and Ivory Coast.

Newbie Community Program

The Africa Wiki Women Newbie Community is a structured onboarding and mentorship space designed to support new and early-career contributors to Wikimedia projects. The community provides guidance, learning resources, and peer support to help participants build confidence, develop editing skills, and grow into active and sustainable contributors within the Wikimedia

The AWW Voices Podcast episodes explore African women’s voices by sharing their open‑knowledge experiences, challenges, and ideas on gender equity, digital inclusion, cultural preservation, and leadership.

Women’s Right and Advocacy

The Women’s Rights and Advocacy program advances gender equity by promoting awareness, amplifying women’s voices, and supporting initiatives that address systemic inequalities across Africa. It creates spaces for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and collaborative action on key issues such as representation, access to opportunities, and digital inclusion. Through partnerships, campaigns, and community engagement, the program empowers women and allies to advocate for change and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
